A buzz has begun spreading within Uttar Pradesh’s political circles that seven-time MP Pankaj Chaudhary may soon take charge as the next state BJP president.

Chaudhary has long been a familiar and trusted figure in the Gorakhpur region. Belonging to the influential Kurmi community, he is also seen as a leader who carries significant social and political weight in eastern UP.

Those who track the state closely say his proximity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the confidence he enjoys at the highest levels have placed him firmly at the front of the race.

Currently, the MP from Maharajganj and Union minister of state for finance, Chaudhary’s rise has been steady, grounded, and built on years of organisational work. As the party gears up for the post’s election, the timeline has been set with precision—nominations will be filed on Saturday between 2pm and 3pm, followed by scrutiny the same day. Candidates will have an hour, from 4pm to 5pm, to withdraw their names. With no visible opposition so far, many within the party believe the new president may be elected unopposed.

For Chaudhary, the task ahead is clearly defined—and far from simple. With Uttar Pradesh headed for elections in early 2027, the BJP will be seeking a third consecutive term in a state where political and social dynamics continue to shift beneath the surface. In such a landscape, Chaudhary’s new role becomes crucial. As a seasoned leader, he will be expected to strike a careful balance between the Centre and the state, while also navigating the complex internal equations within UP itself—a challenge that has tested leaders time and again.

As the clock ticks toward the formal process, all eyes remain on how the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit is preparing to welcome a seasoned parliamentarian—and one of the most prominent faces of the Kurmi community—as its new organisational head.
