Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described Nitish Kumar’s act of removing a woman’s hijab during a public function as “unfortunate". He also linked the incident with an incident where allegedly Mehbooba Mufti removed the burqa of a voter.

Commenting on the incident, Abdullah said, “Here too, during the elections, Mehbooba Mufti had a woman voter’s burqa removed at the polling station. That was also unfortunate, and this is also unfortunate… Earlier, Nitish Kumar was considered a secular leader. Now, the true face of Nitish Kumar is being revealed…"

He criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s act and said, “Forget that she was a Muslim woman, that she was wearing a hijab; how can it ever be right to lay hands on any woman in this manner, to touch her clothes?… What right did he have to touch a woman’s clothes? And then to forcibly remove a Muslim woman’s hijab like that… The woman doctor has said that she no longer wants to work, so Nitish Kumar should realise his mistake and apologise to the woman doctor."

Mehbooba Mufti Criticises Nitish Kumar Over Hijab Incident

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday slammed Bihar Chief Minister for pulling down the veil off a Muslim woman’s face. She raised questions on Nitish Kumar continuing in office.

“Having personally known & admired Nitish ji I was shocked to see him pull down a young Muslim woman’s naqaab. Does one attribute it to old age or the normalisation of humiliating Muslims publicly?" Mufti said in a post on X.

“The fact that people around him watched this horrific incident unfold as some form of an entertainment is even more unsettling. Nitish Sahab, perhaps it’s time you step down?" she added.
