Donald Trump used a Christmas Day Truth Social post to say he cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein years ago, dismissing renewed scrutiny and the release of Epstein-related files as a radical left witch hunt.

US President Donald Trump used a Christmas Day post on his Truth Social platform to weigh in on renewed scrutiny surrounding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, insisting he cut ties with the disgraced financier “long before it became fashionable” and branding the controversy a “radical left witch hunt.”
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump accused political opponents and media outlets of trying to link him to Epstein as documents and claims tied to the so-called “Epstein files” continue to circulate.
“Merry Christmas to all, including the many sleazebags who loved Jeffrey Epstein,” Trump wrote, alleging that powerful figures who once associated with Epstein later distanced themselves when scrutiny intensified. Trump claimed he was actually the only one who did drop Epstein, and long before it became fashionable to do so.
Trump argued that renewed attention on Epstein was being weaponised against him, calling it an ongoing Radical Left Witch Hunt. He asserted that when names connected to Epstein are publicly revealed, they are Democrats all, singling out one lowlife ‘Republican,’” Representative Thomas Massie, for criticism.
The president also revived past grievances with the media, again attacking The New York Times and other outlets over their coverage of the Russia investigation. He claimed the newspaper had been “forced to apologize” for what he described as false reporting and suggested similar motives were driving current coverage of Epstein-related material.
“Now the same losers are at it again,” Trump wrote, warning that people he described as mostly innocent would have their reputations damaged. “That’s the way it is in the world of corrupt Democrat politics,” he added, ending the post with a sharply worded holiday sign-off.
The comments came as the US Justice Department released its largest batch yet of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a disclosure that included multiple references to President Donald Trump but little new substantive information. Much of the material consisted of previously published news reports, though it also included a prosecutor’s email noting Trump’s past flights on Epstein’s private jet during the 1990s.
Trump and Epstein were friends for several years before later falling out, and Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing in connection with the disgraced financier. The Justice Department said on Tuesday that some documents in the release contained “untrue and sensationalist claims” about Trump circulated shortly before the 2020 election, adding that one item — a purported letter from Epstein to convicted sports doctor Larry Nassar — was determined to be fake.
Epstein, a wealthy financier with connections to prominent figures in politics, business and entertainment, died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. His death and sealed court records linked to his associates have continued to fuel public controversy and political debate.
