The man who breached the security of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner and opened fire at a US security service agent has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man hailing from Torrance. According to the interim police chief of Washington, DC, Jeffery Carroll, the man was staying as a guest in the White House Hilton Hotel, where the dinner was held.

Further, Carroll said that it is also unclear who the suspect initially targeted in the shooting. He also mentioned that the investigations are underway, and it is too soon to ascertain the intentions of the shooter.

The shooter was taken to the hospital after the US security forces took him into custody. Carroll told AP that the suspect did not sustain any gunshot injury.

TWO CHARGES AGAINST THE SUSPECT

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the suspect is being charged preliminarily with two charges related to using a firearm and assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon, but that there will be many more charges filed “based on the information that we are learning in this very fluid situation.”

Pirro said the suspect would be arraigned on Monday in federal district court.

ALLEN ARMED WITH MULTIPLE WEAPONS

Talking about the incident, Carroll said that Cole was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.

He further mentioned that he launched the attack all by himself and there is no reason for the investigators to believe that anyone else was involved in the incident. US President Donald Trump also said that the suspect was a 'lone wolf.'

Carroll also confirmed that the incident 'does not appear to be any sort of danger to the public now.'
