US has appointed Iranian-American citizen Mora Namdar as the Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs. Her confirmation was finalised after being backed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Let us look into the career of Mora Namdar.

Who is Mora Namdar?

Mora Namdar, fluent in Farsi, was born in Texas in the family of Iranian immigrants.

The 38-year-old earned her JD from American University Washington College of Law and her Masters degree in Affairs from American University’s School of Service. She was the founding Editor-in Chief of the American University-Washington College of Law’s Security Law Brief. She completed her undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Affairs from SMU in Dallas with minors in Philosophy, Fine Art and Human Rights. She studied abroad at Oxford University and is an avid painter.

A Look Into Namdar’s Political Career

Mora Namdar previously served as the Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs from May 19 till December 1 leading US foreign policy in the Middle East and North Africa (NEA) at the US Department of State.

As chief of NEA, she worked in several projects including Gaza Peace plan, Middle East stabilisation, countering the Iranian regime’s malign influence, supporting human rights, promoting investment in America and American technology, promoting US strategic messaging and internet freedom.

“I remain steadfast in supporting our operations at home and abroad to ensure that the privilege of a U.S. visa is granted only to those who meet the qualifications, that visa holders adhere to the terms of their visas, and that individuals who violate these terms or disregard US laws will lose the privilege of holding a US visa," she said.

According to the government website, Namdar has served as the acting Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, served as the Vice President of Legal, Compliance and Risk at the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), and served as a Senior Advisor at the US Department of State working on a variety of global issues.

She is also an attorney licensed in both Texas and Washington D.C.

Namdar As Owner Of Beauty Salon Business

According to The Daily Beast, Namdar owns a mini-chain of beauty salons called Bam in Texas, with locations in the West Village in her hometown of Dallas, as well as in Fort Worth and Plano.

In an interview with Voyage Dallas, she said: “While running Namdar Law, I created BAM – blowouts and makeup, and began searching for the perfect location. I knew that I wanted to use only the finest products and tools like Balmain Hair Couture, Dyson hair dryers, T3 tools, and our own BAM makeup line which is hypoallergenic, non-animal tested, and some of the most beautiful, natural, and blend-able makeup on the market."

She further said, “I knew the space had to be gorgeous, sophisticated, and evoke dreams of a Parisian heaven in Dallas. I commissioned a towering 20 foot flower wall comprised of handmade individual flowers which greet you as you walk in the door."

“Soon enough, my vision for BAM became a reality in the Uptown Neighborhood of West Village in Dallas and we were lucky enough to be named “The Prettiest Place to get Pretty in Dallas" by D magazine when we opened," she added.
