Following Sharif Osman Hadi’s death, Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus appealed for calm.

Sharif Osman Hadi, the convener of Inquilab Mancha and one of the organisers of the July uprising, died while undergoing treatment in Singapore, days after he was shot in the head in Dhaka. He was shot on December 12 and had been in critical condition since.
Inquilab Mancha member-secretary Abdullah Al Jaber said, “We have come to know over telephone from his elder brother Omar, who is accompanying Hadi in Singapore, that Osman Hadi passed away at around 9:30pm."
Sharif Osman Hadi was preparing to contest the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency. Political parties and organisations across the spectrum, including the Bangladesh ist Party, Citizen Party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Andolan Bangladesh, expressed condolences over his death.
Following Sharif Osman Hadi’s death, Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus appealed for calm.
“I sincerely appeal to all citizens of the country- please maintain patience and restraint. Give the law enforcement agencies and relevant institutions the opportunity to conduct the investigation professionally," he said in a statement.
Yunus said all those involved in what he termed a “brutal assassination" would be brought to justice and face the highest punishment, with no leniency shown. He also announced that the government would take responsibility for the welfare of Sharif Osman Hadi’s wife and only child.
The Bangladesh government declared a one-day national mourning to mark Sharif Osman Hadi’s death. flags will be flown at half-mast and his mortal remains are expected to be flown back from Singapore to Bangladesh on Friday.
