97 Lakh Names Deleted From Tamil Nadu Voter Roll, Political Row Erupts After Draft List

Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Archana Patnaik has released the draft electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), triggering a major political row. Speaking to the press, Patnaik confirmed the updated figures, stating, 'In our draft electoral roll, we have 5,43,76,755 electors.' The Election Commission has deleted approximately 97 lakh names from the list, citing reasons such as duplication, death, and relocation. The ruling DMK has questioned the rushed nature of the exercise, while opposition leaders like AIADMK's Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP's Tamilisai Soundararajan have welcomed the move, with the latter claiming the deletions expose why Chennai has been a DMK stronghold.
