India on Friday announced that it will grant one-month visa extensions and waive overstay penalties for foreign nationals stranded in the country because of travel disruptions linked to the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.

The Consulate General of India in Dubai announced that the relief measures were being introduced to help travellers unable to leave India due to the conflict in the Gulf, as flights remain disrupted to several countries.

“All types of visas/e-visas expiring/due for expiry soon would be extended for a month on gratis basis, for the affected nationals by jurisdictional FRROs (Foreigners Regional Registration Offices) on a case-to-case basis: Penalty for any overstay by affected foreign nationals due to ongoing developments in West Asia after February 28, 2026, would be waived off," the statement read.

The consulate also announced that exit permits would be provided to the affected foreign nationals, and the non-application of exit permits and extension of visas by affected foreign nationals would not be treated as a violation of migration legislation. India has also decided to provide Temporary Landing Permits (TLPs) free of charge to foreign nationals whose flights are diverted to the country due to disruptions in West Asian airspace.

This extension came as the war against Iran entered its 14th day with no end in sight, with continued disruptions energy supplies, international travel and security in the Gulf region. Hundreds of passengers are stranded in several countries, including in India.

After nearly two weeks of war, more than 2,000 people have been killed, most of them in Iran, but many also in Lebanon and a growing number in the Gulf, which has – for the first time in decades of regional conflicts – found itself on the front line. Several million people have been displaced from their homes.
